The challenge

Fatal accidents involving trucks.

The challenge will focus on both the investigative part and preventive part of fatal accidents involving trucks.

The challenge is divided into 3 sub-questions: 1. Mirror field investigation is very difficult, how can we make this more reliable? 2. How can we target potential victims and create more awareness? 3. There are many trucks in the city centre, how can we make this safer?

The why

Why is this challenge important?

Too many (fatal) accidents have happened with trucks in the city, on average 20-25 every year. The driver's view is examined however subject to uncertainties. We need to improve the reliability of the examination. Simultaneously prevention of these kind of accidents is a priority for the municipality of Amsterdam. Together we need to create a safer environment.

The solution

What outcome are we looking for?

An overview of the first ideas after ideation phase and a more in depth elaboration of the most promising and impactfull ideas. One team will focus on improving our investigative methods and the other on preventing these type of accidents.

Expectations

What do we expect from the participants?

There will be two teams of 6-8 students. Preferably multi-disciplinary creative teams! We expect the student to challenge this problem from different (non existing & more alternative) perspectives.

Rewards

  • Practical experience (work as an innovation consultant)
  • Potential internship
  • Potential collaboration with partners (Gemeente Amsterdam & Politie)

About us

Politie Nederland

Police officers are at the heart of society, close to the news. The police are where it happens. Our actions are always under a magnifying glass. We are there for everyone in our diverse society, 24 hours a day. Integrity, courage, reliability and binding are our core values. Within the police organization you can contribute to a safe society in various ways. On the street or behind the scenes; every colleague contributes to police work. Agents may intervene and deprive suspects of their freedom if necessary. You supervise the street and you are where your help is needed. You can also opt for a position in business operations, for example in administration, IT or policy. Or for a position in the financial or digital investigation. But whatever you do, in uniform or not: craftsmanship comes first.
