The challenge

Finance in the agricultural sector

The Global Business Unit Food & Agriculture within DLL helps agriculture and food business, professionals and enthusiasts acquire equipment and technology to meet the sustenance needs of a growing global population. DLL adds value by offering flexible financing solutions that help farmers to obtain the latest agricultural equipment without having to reply on their own capital. For DLL and its parent Rabobank there is a focus on how to support the partners in their journey towards a more sustainable future. This includes lifecycle asset management and financing used agricultural equipment next to new equipment. The questions regarding this topic that keep DLL awake at night are:

  • How can DLL better support the changing agricultural industry?

  • Which segment should DLL focus on and what kind of equipment?

  • Next to their current customer base, which consists out of the major agricultural equipment manufacturers, what are interesting new partners to team up with?

  • Is there an angle to the transition towards a more sustainable agriculture that DLL needs to take a closer look at? Where can DLL add business value?

The why

Why is this challenge important?

As the world’s population continues to grow, the need for financial solutions in the agricultural sector is at an all-time high. Current consumption patterns will be impossible without better use of resources and more sustainable and innovative solutions. The demand for food is expected to rise considerably, so food production needs to increase at an even stronger pace. Producers will have to learn to do more with less, ensuring sustainability and economic viability for the long term.

The solution

What outcome are we looking for?

Whilst DLL is primarily looking for a recommendation that answers these questions a suggestion for a business model is highly appreciated.
