WIJ Groningen is a community-focused organisation dedicated to providing advice and support to people in the municipality of Groningen. Its mission is to help residents gain and maintain control over their lives by offering accessible support as close to home as possible. The organisation believes in the value of support from family, friends, and local networks, and works to strengthen these connections wherever possible.
WIJ Groningen encourages people to make use of their own talents and capabilities, while also contributing to strong social cohesion within neighbourhoods. An important part of its work is providing assessments under the Social Support Act (Wmo) and the Youth Act, helping residents arrange the care and support they need. This role, known as case management, ensures that people receive appropriate guidance and that active steps are taken when extra support is required.
Its neighbourhood workers, community workers, and youth workers are active directly within local communities. They work closely with residents, social networks, and partner organisations to create meaningful connections between people and initiatives. This includes supporting local initiatives, volunteer work, sports, and cultural activities. By encouraging participation and bringing people together, WIJ Groningen helps create pleasant, inclusive, and supportive living environments for everyone.
