How can we activate local residents to look out for one another by offering help and fun with small tasks and light care activities—without relying on professional care services? We are looking for practical solutions that encourage community members to engage in mutual support. This includes helping with groceries, minor repairs, companionship, or informal caregiving.
As an organization with a strong societal mission, we believe that community resilience begins with people caring for each other. Professional care alone cannot meet all needs, especially in aging or vulnerable populations. By empowering residents to take initiative in their neighborhoods, we aim to build a culture of shared responsibility and social connection. Market-research in the area of Noord Brabant shows us, that 80+% of the people understand that something must change in our society to keep healthcare available for those who need it most. Only 6% is active helping others in their own neighbourhoods. However, we recognize the ethical complexities: how do we ensure fairness, avoid exploitation, and protect privacy and dignity?
The challenge is to design interventions, tools, or campaigns that foster trust, reciprocity, and inclusivity—while respecting boundaries and avoiding the replacement of professional care. This hackathon invites students to think critically and compassionately about these issues while contributing to real-world change.
