1. Description of the challenge

Sustainable Design ADAPTO shuttle system
The challenge we would like to bring forward is by examining one of our core products, the ADAPTO shuttle system. ADAPTO is a unique 3D, shuttle-based automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) with built-in sorting and sequencing capabilities. ADAPTO consists of a racking structure with an integrated shuttle track system that features multidirectional microshuttles (small, automated transport shuttles) to move product bins between storage locations in the rack and workstations. A built-in lift allows product bins to move up and down between rack levels and to the available stations. Software controls shuttle traffic, maximizing throughput and minimizing order lead times.

Similarly to all our other products every so often redesigns take place and these moments are an excellent moment to rethink what has been done in the past. Vanderlande wants to give you the opportunity to steer the development of the new generation of ADAPTO with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in mind. How this can be achieved is up to the team! New manufacturing methods with circularity in mind? 3D printed to reduce weight? Better vehicle control strategies or perhaps even a different business model? In this challenge you shape and steer the future of ADAPTO.

2. Expected outcome

We are looking for fresh and out-of-the-box ideas that will help us get new ideas.
