1. Description of the challenge

In this challenge, we will further explore alongside the Municipality of Maastricht how we can retain talent in and around the Maastricht region. On the one hand, this involves providing opportunities to retain graduates in the region after their studies, deploying their talents working for an employer on the regional labour market. On the other hand, it applies to graduates who have launched or wanting to launch startups, aiming to keep these startups in the region as well.

In this challenge, we will consider:

  • The attractiveness of Maastricht and/or Limburg in terms of innovation & entrepreneurship
  • The attractiveness of the labour market in and around the Maastricht region
  • Attracting potential talent for the Maastricht region
  • The possibilities & opportunities for startups in the Maastricht region

Seize this chance to contribute your ideas and help enhance Maastricht's future! Join us in this exciting journey to make a lasting impact on Maastricht and its community.

2. Expected outcome

The desired outcome of this challenge is to create a dynamic ecosystem in the Maastricht region that not only attracts but also retains top talent, both in terms of skilled professionals and ambitious entrepreneurs. By leveraging the attractiveness of Maastricht and Limburg for innovation and entrepreneurship, strengthening the local labor market, actively attracting potential talent, and fostering a supportive environment for startups, we aim to position Maastricht as a hub of creativity, growth, and opportunity.

About Gemeente Maastricht

Maastricht is the capital of the province of Limburg and has a population of over 123,000 residents. It is the birthplace of the European Union and the euro. Maastricht's location on the border encourages people in this region to think and act across borders, connecting and building bridges. From this unique international position and rich historical background, Maastricht can also be called the cradle of Europe. The municipality collaborates with the province, the university, and other partners on Europe: 'Working on Europe'.

Maastricht is a social and cohesive city that is increasingly developing and positioning itself as an international university city. We collectively further develop our rich productive and cultural heritage in a healthy, sustainable, prosperous, safer, accessible, innovative, and creative city. With this, Maastricht promises a top-quality living, working, and staying environment of European stature to all its residents, visitors, and businesses.
