1. Description of the challenge

The Case

A client intends to build a new hydrogen separation unit in Rotterdam. Your team,
representing Fluor as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC)
contractor, must develop a competitive execution strategy for the project. Working with
limited information, you will estimate the total project cost and establish a realistic
timeline that accounts for the engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
Subsequently, you will make strategic supplychain decisions for key materials and
services, taking into consideration cost, quality, safety, and schedule implications.
This is a roleplay simulation in which information is revealed progressively through
conversations, reflecting real-world interactions between clients and contractors.

What You Will Gain

  • First-hand experience of real-world EPC project challenges.
  • Insight into how cost estimation and scheduling underpin successful project delivery.
  • A clear understanding of procurement strategies and typical client priorities.
  • Opportunities to strengthen teamwork, communication, and decision making under time pressure.
  • Enhanced problemsolving skills when working with incomplete or evolving information.
