1. Description of the challenge

Yokogawa is a process automation company traditionally active in Oil & Gas and Chemical industry. Since several years Yokogawa is transforming with the energy transition and digitalization. We have a strong focus on Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, BioFuels and Wind & Solar power. We secured the first two large size hydrogen site of Shell “ Holland Hydrogen 1” and Air Liquide “ Normandy” and are working on the Aramis Carbon Capture project.  

In the industrial environment in NL there two trends at the moment: 

  • Transforming the industry into green energy. Heavy industry, traditionally a large source of emissions, is now under pressure to transform and meet climate targets. New projects in hydrogen, carbon capture, and renewables are starting to reshape the entire sector. 
  • Operating a factory / plant with less people (digitalization). Factories and plants are increasingly expected to operate with fewer people on site, pushing automation and data-driven decision-making to the next level. The vision is to move towards autonomous operations, where technology ensures efficiency, safety, and sustainability. 
2. Expected outcome

We don’t just want ideas, we want ideas that could spark real innovation. Your solutions should aim to be: 

  • Creative – Push boundaries, imagine the future. 
  • Data-driven – Back up your insights with market data or case studies. 
  • Practical – Think about how this could actually be developed, tested, or deployed. 
  • Hackathon-ready – Something you can turn into a prototype, demo, dashboard, or business concept within the hackathon.
